This & that

TIP 1 – How can I help? Instead of using a disposable cup, bring your own coffee mug or use the Recup system ((https://www.wuerzburg.de/unternehmen/stadtmarketing/nachhaltigkeit1/534821. RECUP-Becher-in-Wuerzburg.html)) with about 50 partner locations throughout Würzburg. Every hour, about 320,000 disposable cups are used for hot beverages in Germany. Every year, this amounts to almost three billion disposable cups! Source: BMUV: Disposable cups in Germany

How can I help make THWS even more sustainable?

Did you know?

Sending an e-mail emits approx. 0.3 grams of CO2. The added-up e-mail correspondence of THWS students and employees is about 27 million e-mails per year, resulting in CO2 emissions of almost 8,000 kg. Thus, we recommend sending only necessary e-mails and deleting unnecessary e-mails and documents, as storing them also emits CO2.

The "FutureAvenue" ("ZukunftsAllee") project

The Institute for Applied Logistics and the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering (FAB) represented THWS in this matter. Within the scope of the 2024 project, they presented their ideas and visions for adjusting the climate in the Würzburg city centre.

In November 2024, THWS actively participated in the Germany-wide Public Climate School initiative – a follow-up is planned for 2025.

TIP 2 – How can I contribute? Adjust the temperature of your heating: You should feel comfortable inside your room, not too warm. Briefly open all your windows for fresh air, but close them soon after. It's more sustainable than leaving them half-open all the time. It also avoids cooling down the walls of your room. Did you know that reducing the temperature by only one degree Celsius lowers the energy consumption by approximately six percent? Not only does it shrink your utilities bill, you also contribute to reducing CO2 emissions.
With ca. 80 %, commuting represents the largest share of CO2 emissions at THWS. Source: THWS Climate Protection Concept
